# Getting started

From signing up to your first push in a few minutes, then on to what makes Rebasely different: live branches, sandboxes and agents.

### 1. Create your account

Sign up with Google and accept the terms. Rebasely lets a limited number of new people in each day; if today's places are taken, you join the waitlist and get an email when yours opens.

[Sign up with Google](https://rebasely.com/signin?return_to=%2Fdocs%2Fstart)

Before sensitive actions, such as creating an access token or making a repository public, Rebasely asks you to confirm it's you with Google or a passkey. Passkeys are optional: [how sign-in works](https://rebasely.com/docs/sign-in).

### 2. Create an organization and a repository

Every repository belongs to an organization, which can be just you. Create an organization, then a repository, from your home page. New repositories are private; an owner can make one public in its settings.

### 3. Install the CLI

The Rebasely CLI is one file and needs Node.js 22.18 or later.

macOS and Linux:

```sh
curl -fsSL https://rebasely.com/install | sh
```

Windows:

```sh
# in WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux)
curl -fsSL https://rebasely.com/install | sh
```

The installer puts the CLI in `~/.rebasely` and the `rebasely` command on your PATH, with `duragit` as an alias; it is short, so [read it](https://rebasely.com/install) first if you like. Run it again to update.

### 4. Sign git in

The CLI asks you to approve an access token in your browser and hands it to git's credential helper, so `git push` just works.

HTTPS:

```sh
rebasely auth login
```

Without the CLI:

```sh
# Create a token with the repo:write scope at /settings/tokens,
# then paste it when git asks for a password.
git push
```

`rebasely auth status` shows what is signed in. [Access tokens](https://rebasely.com/docs/tokens) has the details. SSH access is turned off.

### 5. Push

From a repository you already have:

```sh
git remote add origin https://rebasely.com/<org>/<repo>.git
git push -u origin HEAD
```

Or start a new one:

```sh
mkdir app && cd app
git init -b main
echo "# app" > README.md
git add README.md && git commit -m "First commit"
git remote add origin https://rebasely.com/<org>/app.git
git push -u origin main
```

Your repository's page shows these commands with its own name filled in. If a push is refused, [Push errors](https://rebasely.com/docs/errors) says why.

## What next

1. [Run CI with Actions](https://rebasely.com/docs/actions): Add a workflow under .rebasely/workflows and push: jobs run on Cloudflare Sandboxes.
2. [Edit a live branch](https://rebasely.com/docs/live): rebasely mount <org>/<repo> my-idea --create, then save in any editor.
3. [Add an agent](https://rebasely.com/docs/agents): Its own identity, token and limits, working in sandboxes over MCP.
4. [Describe your system](https://rebasely.com/docs/dot-rebasely): A knowledge base and an architecture map that people and agents read first.
